A run-down four storey townhouse within the Portman Estate was converted into four residential apartments. Works included complete internal refurbishment and the addition of a new mansard roof.
The Georgian house was stripped back to upgrade and strengthen the existing structure, retaining period mouldings and fireplaces. Lightwells to the rear were enclosed with new glazed ceiling lights, an extra floor was added, and the basement re-lined and decorated to increase total habitable space by 20%. This allowed us to create a mix of flats and two-storey maisonettes, replacing one dwelling with four.
The combination of traditional high ceilinged panelled rooms with contemporary decoration produces comfortable and sophisticated living spaces for the modern city dweller.
