The Gothic arches and elaborate brickwork walls of the orangery at Wadhurst were all that remained of a large Victorian mansion. After over a century of use it was in need of serious restoration. To mark their 50th wedding anniversary the owners decided to transform the space into a ballroom, capable of hosting 200 guests.
The concept design by John Outram envisaged a new glass barrel-vault roof with curving hips at each end built onto the existing brickwork walls.
Our role as executive architects was to turn that vision into built form, working with specialist glazing engineers to resolve building details, co-ordinate production packages and manage the project on site.
